San Francisco study finds merchants benefit from bike lanes, traffic calming \u2014 Geoff Meggs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Counsellor Meggs discusses an interesting study that shows that bikes lanes are not necessarily such a terrible thing as local businesses fear – on the contrary, four years on, most businesses benefitted by having a bike lane put in front of them. The street changed from two lanes in each direction with parking to one lane, a bike lane and parking on each side.<\/p>\n

Sixty-six percent of the merchants believed that the bike lanes have had a generally positive impact on their business, and the same percentage would support more traffic calming on Valencia Street. Thirty-seven percent of merchants reported that the bike lanes have increased their sales.<\/p>\n

I hope we see the same outcomes in downtown Vancouver!<\/p>\n
