Some are more impatient than confused, and are illegally turning right, cutting across the bike lane and scaring some of the\u00a0 cyclists.<\/p>\n<p>Shop merchants are (predictably) complaining that traffic confusion means shoppers are giving their stores a pass. WHEN are they going to discover that cyclists spend money? And that not all cyclists are bike couriers, as one liquor store merchant seemed to think? He said that some of his most frequent customers are bike couriers, but complained that they only buy one or two beers at a time. Gregor bought a few welcome sound bites of sanity to the news story when he said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cHornby Street\u2019s open. And that\u2019s a good time to shop there for the holidays. &#8230; I\u2019m not worried about the popularity piece of it. <strong>This is really important infrastructure for downtown Vancouver<\/strong>. We build streets, we build sidewalks. <strong>Building good bike lanes is important for our future<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hear, hear. Or as my daughter would say, <strong>\u201cWord.\u201d<\/strong> (And I actually know what that means, which shows I&#8217;m not as old as I look.)<\/p>\n<p>Global chose to end the story on a bitchy note. They focused on a bike courier cycling like a loon, and commented: \u201cSome of the bike lane lettering is already crumbling. No bother to some who just ignore \u00a0it all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To Global, and to all those confused and irate motorists, I say:<br \/>\n<strong>\u201cHornby Bike Lane is here to stay <\/strong>\u2013<strong> get used to it!\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nWord.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, that\u2019s not exactly what he said.
