Video shows Super Hydrophobic Material"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here\u2019s a brilliant invention out of Rochester University in Rochester, New York. With this new invention of <strong>hydrophobic material<\/strong>, we can possibly look forward to a future in which our bikes stay spotlessly clean as they repel rain and mud!<\/p>\n<p>Chunlei Guo has invented a <strong>super hydrophobic material<\/strong> (a metal that is completely water repellent). It\u2019s not a chemical coating, like Teflon \u2013 the water-repelling quality is an intrinsic part of the actual hydrophobic material.<\/p>\n<p>The material is so hydrophobic that water bounces off it. Here\u2019s a video about this amazing invention.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"lazyload\" title=\"Using Lasers to Create Super-hydrophobic Materials\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FLegmQ8_dHg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Note that the\u00a0hydrophobic material doesn\u2019t just repel water \u2013 the water takes dust away with it as it bounces off! So it\u2019s basically <strong>self-cleaning<\/strong> as well. Chunlei Guo hopes that his invention will make it possible to flush toilets with almost no water (in parts of the world that don\u2019t have much water).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>I think that\u2019s great, but I admit to being more excited about the idea of having rain and mud being completely repelled from my bike (which would be made from this hydrophobic material). Imagine cycling through a rainstorm and arriving home with a spotless bike! I explain a pretty <a href=\"https:\/\/averagejoecyclist.com\/how-to-keep-bike-chain-clean-lubed\/\" target=\"_blank\">simple way to clean and lube your chain here<\/a>, but wouldn&#8217;t it be great if it NEVER GOT DIRTY?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And this principle would surely work to make truly hydrophobic cycling glasses too.
